Dead Until Dark, by Charlaine Harris
oh man! I loved this book!
The good thing about being a librarian, is you get to read a lot of good books. But the bad thing is you have to read books that you might not othewise have chosen. Now that I have my mojo back I feel like Im in a candy shop and not able to taste anything. I see books I want to read, but have books Im supposed to read stacked up all around me. Its true though, that the books on my reading list are very good, but there are times when I pick up a leetle contraband, look over my shoulder, and.... heh heh
pan to book...mmmm delicious cover too.
Dead Until Dark is the first in a series that I stumbled across and fell in lust. There are several more, thank god!, that I now have in my hot greedy hands! WHOOO!
The story is set in Louisianna, strangely enough near a town I used to live in, Shreveport, LA.
Strange, huh. Anyway, its a vamp story which is always a plus in my book; Vampires are so damned sexy!
It seems Vampires are finally accepted minorities in society; synthetic blood has made their need for human blood decrease.
(So those unpleasant little forays are no longer a problem, it is hoped)
Anyway I loved the way the author humors you right away into thinking this is a lighthearted and frothy book. There is a lot going on...and it deepens up before you're very far into the book. The humor is there but so is death, murder, mayhem and some good sex which you KNOW I like!
I was so excited to find this book, this review doesn't do it justice, but Im in hurry to get ready for work.
ciao
